Mt. Oyama (1,252m) is a prominent peak in the Tanzawa Mountains of Kanagawa Prefecture, visible from much of the Kanto Plain. The mountain has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries, with Oyama Afuri Shrine perched partway up the slope and a stone-paved approach road lined with tofu restaurants. The hike offers dense forests, ancient stone monuments, and sweeping views of Sagami Bay and the Kanto region.

Access
Take the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku to Isehara Station (about 60 minutes), then a bus to Oyama Cable Station (about 25 minutes). A cable car runs to the lower shrine. By car, use the Tomei Expressway Atsugi IC.
Warnings & Safety
The summit trail is steep and rocky in sections. Trail can be icy in winter—crampons recommended December to March. Wild deer are common and can be aggressive during rutting season. Bring adequate water as there are limited sources above the shrine.
