Mt. Moiwa (531m) rises in the heart of Sapporo, offering one of Hokkaido's finest city panoramas and a surprisingly natural hiking experience just minutes from downtown. The forested trail climbs through a primeval forest designated as a natural monument, home to diverse wildlife including Ezo squirrels and woodpeckers. The summit provides a famous night view ranked among Japan's top three.

Access
Take the Sapporo Streetcar to Ropeway Iriguchi Station, then walk 10 minutes to the ropeway base. Multiple trailheads are accessible by bus from Sapporo Station. The Moiwa Ropeway and mini cable car reach the summit.
Warnings & Safety
Trails can be icy from November to April—crampons or spikes recommended in winter. Bears have been sighted occasionally—carry a bell. Some routes are steep and slippery when wet. The ropeway may close in strong winds.
