Mt. Kiso-Komagatake (2,956m) is the highest peak in the Central Alps, made remarkably accessible by the Komagatake Ropeway which ascends to the Senjojiki Cirque at 2,612m. The glacially carved amphitheater of Senjojiki is blanketed with alpine flowers in summer, and the relatively short climb to the summit crosses a scenic ridge with views stretching from the Northern to Southern Alps.

Access
Take the JR Iida Line to Komagane Station, then a bus to Shirabidaira (about 45 minutes). The Komagatake Ropeway ascends to Senjojiki (about 8 minutes). By car, park at Kanogawa and take the bus. Private cars are restricted on the access road.
Warnings & Safety
Despite ropeway access, this is a genuine alpine environment. Weather changes rapidly at 2,600m+. The climb from Senjojiki to the ridge involves a steep, rocky section (Otoko-zaka). Snow remains into July. Wind chill can be severe. The ropeway queue on summer weekends can exceed 2 hours. Altitude sickness is possible.
