The Kamikochi to Myojin Pond trail is a gentle riverside walk through one of Japan's most spectacular alpine valleys in the Northern Alps. The flat, well-maintained path follows the crystal-clear Azusa River, passing through groves of birch and larch with towering peaks reflected in the water. Myojin Pond, a sacred mirror-like lake surrounded by primeval forest, is the serene highlight of this easy walk.

Access
Take the train to Matsumoto Station, then a bus to Kamikochi (about 90 minutes). Private vehicles are prohibited—use the shuttle bus from Sawando parking area or Hirayu Onsen. Kamikochi is open mid-April to mid-November only.
Warnings & Safety
Kamikochi is closed from mid-November to mid-April. Bears are active in the area—carry a bell and store food properly. Weather can change rapidly in the mountains. The trail floods during heavy rain. No accommodation at Myojin without reservation.
