Pinaisara Falls on Iriomote Island in Okinawa is the tallest waterfall in the prefecture at 55 meters, hidden within a subtropical mangrove and jungle landscape. The adventure typically combines kayaking through mangrove-lined rivers with a jungle trek to reach both the base and the top of the falls. From the top, sweeping views extend over the jungle canopy to the turquoise coral reef lagoon.

Access
Fly to Ishigaki Airport, then take a ferry to Uehara Port on Iriomote Island (about 40 minutes). Tours typically depart from the Uehara area. A guided tour is strongly recommended as trails are unmarked. No public transport to the trailhead.

A guided tour is strongly recommended as trails are unmarked and easy to lose. The jungle trail is muddy, steep, and slippery. Habu (venomous pit viper) are present on Iriomote—watch where you step. Extreme heat and humidity year-round—bring ample water. Beware of strong currents while kayaking. Check weather and tide conditions before departing.
