御嶽山は長野県と岐阜県にまたがる標高3,067mの巨大な成層火山で、日本の山岳信仰で最も神聖な山の一つです。2014年の噴火による犠牲者の慰霊碑がトレイル沿いに建てられています。広い山頂台地には複数の火口湖があり、森林、高山草原、火山地形を通る広大なトレイルネットワークがあります。
