九州最南端の秀麗な円錐形火山。薩摩富士の愛称で親しまれる。
開聞岳は九州最南端に位置する標高924mの美しい円錐形の火山で、その姿から「薩摩富士」と呼ばれています。トレイルは独特のらせん状に山を巻きながら登り、亜熱帯の森を抜けると東シナ海、鹿児島湾、遠く屋久島・種子島まで360度の大パノラマが広がる岩場の山頂に到達します。
